Church

The Bible doesn’t promise us
A safe church
Full of safe honest people

Instead, we are told
That it’s full of wolves
As well as of sheep

Everyone is human
No one is perfect
We are all affected by sin

In the church, we can find
Tremendous healing
As well as tremendous hurt

But we need to realise,
That the church isn’t perfect
It’s full of people just like you and me

A Safe Church

The church should be safe
A place to be you
To ask for help
When feeling down and out

It should be a place
To worship God freely
Without criticisms
Or feel you are being judged

It should be a place
You go with happiness
And not somewhere
You end up in tears

The church should be safe
But that’s not always the case
Cos those who are in the church
Are just humans like you

Humans who are broken
Sinners like us all
No one is perfect
Not even us Christians

Christians should be safe
But that’s not always the case
Cos like everybody else
We can still cause hurt and pain

That may sadden you
But it is the truth
Because we are only human
And openly make mistakes

The church isn’t everything
Christians aren’t perfect
But the one sure thing
Is that Jesus is safe

Walk Away

Each time I walk away
You came knocking

Every time I let go
You come closer

If I say no
You don’t listen

But if I say yes
You turn away

You are like a tap
You turn hot and cold

You leave me confused
With my head in a spin

I don’t understand you
And don’t think I ever will

I want to say goodbye
Will you please let me go?

Now when I walk away
Please just walk the other way

In the Darkness

In the darkness
I come to you
I pray for forgiveness
And a peace to be

In the darkness
When I am scared
And in the pain
I take comfort in you

In the darkness
It is easy to turn away
And focus on ourselves
But that takes work

In your darkest hour
You forgot about yourself
And called out for forgiveness
To those in the wrong

In the darkness
I thank you
And I take comfort
In your love and sacrifice for me

Broken Down

Broken down
Not repairable
Relationships crumble
And hearts break

Can’t do it no more
You are on your own
If you want me
You can come and find me

You may act the big I am
But you aren’t
People walk away from you
Due to your hostility

You pick people up
And drop them down again
With no consideration
For how people feel

I have said it before
But I am letting go
I need to focus on me
As to me, I am important

My feelings do count
I need space to breathe
To not be controlled
So please let me go

Do You Wonder?

I sometimes wonder
If you ever think of me
Of who I have become
And how I am doing

Do you wonder where I am?
If I am living close to you
Or gone across the world
And made good of myself?

Do you wonder what I do?
What kind of job I am in
If I am married or single
And do I have kids?

Do you miss me?
Do you wish I had stayed?
Or are you glad I have gone
And given you peace

Or do you miss me so much
That you want me back
Does it feel to you?
Like a piece of you is missing

Do you even think of me at all?
Or have I left your mind completely
Do I feature in your memories?
Do I have a place in your heart?

Or am I just a mistake you made
Something to never think about
Or do you cry tears at night
Guilty about what you did?

Steal My Joy

I have made a decision
That is when you put me down
I am going to stand strong
And not let you steal my joy

Every day the jibes are made
And every day they hurt me
But now it will wash over me
As you will not steal my joy

You may think you are important
You may think you know everything
But you don’t really know me
And you will not steal my joy

So go on, do all you can
To antagonize and undermine me
Because nothing you do or say
Will take the true joy away
