Shining Stars Fade Away

TV screens show us the anguish
The anguish of mothers losing their young
Women too poor to feed their kids
So they have to watch them die

Men have no work to do
Because the fields are bare
There is no food to carry home
Because a famine has struck

Many are dying from a treatable disease
But they have to suffer cos drugs aren’t cheap
And money is not available
So people are left to die

It’s a fallen world we inhabit
The poor suffer because they are poor
While the rich just sit back and watch
We should get up off our knees

Lord make people get off their knees, please
Some people have done so
But where are they now
When it really matters

Some people got off their knees
They have now disappeared
A day of festivities was arranged
To make people sit up and listen

People saw the point
Realised something needed to be done
But then famine struck
Help was truly needed, but people faded

Those stars shone for one day
But now the light has gone
Disappeared from the picture
Just when disaster struck

Was it all a waste of time?
Performing on that day
Or are those faded stars going to shine bright again
In this time of hunger and death
